We’ve heard you loud and clear. We’ve now replaced all our existing equipment and added over a thousand new sites to give you the best Vodafone experience you’ve ever had. Best of all, our new network is ready to fly on 4G with even more improvements to come.
We’ve done a lot, and we’re doing even more. Unfortunately that means there may be some disruptions to your Vodafone service while we make these improvements. These will generally happen between 11pm and 7am from Sunday to Thursday, with occasional daytime and weekend work when absolutely essential (but we’ll make sure to let you know before we start). We‘ll try to keep any disruptions to a bare minimum, and hope our timings don’t affect you much.

We’ve got 2012 out of the way with a load of improvements to our network. Now in 2013, we’re ramping things up by bringing you even more coverage, faster speeds and greater reliability.
We’ll be launching 4G soon, starting in selected capital city areas and working our way outwards. If you have a 4G-ready phone or tablet, have a 4G-ready plan and are in a 4G coverage area, you’ll be able to fly with speeds up to 15x faster than our current 3G network average of 1Mbps.
We’re also expanding our Vodafone 3G+ coverage to bring you speeds up to 8x faster than our standard 3G network in selected metro areas of 1Mbps. Of course, to reach these speeds you’ll need a compatible phone or tablet. Check our coverage improvements here.
The planned Vodafone 3G+ and 4G networks will let you do all of the things you love, only faster. The new Vodafone 3G+ network is progressively rolling out in selected metropolitan areas of Sydney and Newcastle, Melbourne, Geelong and Mornington Peninsula, Brisbane and Gold Coast, Adelaide and Perth. To experience our future network speeds, you'll need to be in a Vodafone 3G+ or 4G coverage area, and use a compatible smartphone, tablet or mobile broadband modem.
The different speeds that make up our network evolution are explained below. We've listed the range of speeds you can experience on our network, as they will vary due to a number of factors*.
On our 3G network today, you can experience download speeds between 0.5Mbps to 5Mbps when using compatible devices, with an average download speed of 1Mbps. This network will continue to improve as we upgrade our equipment throughout the year.
We're rolling out planned download speeds of up to 8x faster than our current 3G average download speeds starting in selected areas. This means download speeds between 1Mpbs to 16Mbps when using a compatible device, with an average download speed of 8Mbps. The new iPad and iPhone 5 are Vodafone 3G+ capable and more devices are to come.
In 2013, we’ll commence rolling out our 4G network in selected capital city areas to bring you planned download speeds of up to 15x faster than our current 3G average download speeds. This means download speeds between 2Mbps to 40Mbps when using a compatible device on this network, with an average download speed of 15Mbps.

*Actual download speeds experienced will depend on a number of factors such as user numbers, local conditions, congestion, hardware, software, download source, general internet traffic and access to enabled sites.
We haven’t forgotten Australia’s regional areas, we’re improving breadth and depth of regional coverage and it’s called Vodafone Regional.
With Vodafone Regional we’re increasing our network coverage from 94% of the Australian population to 96% from June 2013. This simply means that you’ll have more coverage in more places. Pretty cool news, huh?
