Vodafone Expand for Enterprise helps to create an improved indoor signal for Vodafone 3G mobile devices, providing better call quality and mobile internet access for your office or workplace. It's a great solution for businesses that have limited or no coverage in their current environment, such as warehouses, basements or built-up areas.

It works by simply connecting into your standard ADSL2+ (or faster) Fixed Broadband connection and mains power to provide indoor 3G Vodafone coverage for mobile voice, TXT and mobile data.

Large Expander

  • Handles up to 16 mobile voice calls or up to 16 mobile data sessions simultaneously*
  • Is suitable for up to 80 mobile users per Expander based on typical calling patterns
  • Estimated range = approximately 60m unobstructed*
  • Large Expanders are designed to be wall mounted
  • Supports hand–over between Large Expanders provided there is continuous available coverage between them
  • About the size of a thick A4 folder
  • Available on an "Open Access" basis.

Data usage examples

Jack typically makes about 400 minutes and receives about 100 minutes of voice calls each month. If he is in the office about 30% of the time then he is making and taking about 150 minutes of Vodafone Expand phone calls each month. 150 minutes on Vodafone Expand per person should equate to approximately 100 Megabytes of upload and 100 Megabytes of download traffic via the Fixed Broadband connection (charged to you by your fixed broadband provider).

 

Anna watches a video online which typically equates to about 1MB per minute. If the video was 10 minutes long then Anna would use about 10MBs of mobile data on her Vodafone account and an additional approximate 13.2 MB of data on the Fixed Broadband account. The data figures above are examples of typical use and are intended as a guide only. Vodafone recommends that if Fixed Broadband usage and the associated charges are a concern that you use the company's WiFi access for all mobile data usage.

  • Microwave power for the Large Expander = 100mW which is similar to a typical corporate WiFi router
  • The Large Expander power is less than a typical mobile handset (125mW Power Class 4 and up to 2000mW Power Class 1)
  • Each Expander transmits about the same power as a home cordless (DECT) phone
  • As the mobile phone is working with a nearby Expander the phone battery may last longer and the mobile phone microwave power output may be reduced compared to usage on the outdoor Vodafone network

    You will only be eligible for Vodafone Expand for enterprise if your premises are within Vodafone's 2100MHz Spectrum Licence area

    • You accept that Vodafone Expand for Enterprise is offered on an Open Access basis. While this is easier to manage there is a possibility that the coverage range of your Expanders will extend beyond your office walls so that other companies who share a building with you or the public outside might be able to access the coverage provided by your Expanders. If this happens, you will incur additional fixed broadband usage on your fixed broadband account, which may result in additional costs depending on your Fixed Broadband Plan. All fixed broadband data incurred to use Vodafone Expand will be the subject of a separate agreement between you and your Internet Service Provider.
    • If your bandwidth is less than 128 kilobytes per second, this may restrict you from making voice calls, including emergency calls.
    • Vodafone recommends that adequate bandwidth is allocated to ensure Vodafone Expand for Enterprise can operate effectively. ADSL 2+ or faster fixed broadband connection will likely be required for one or more Large Expanders
    • You will need to supply Ethernet (Internet) cabling and 240VAC to each agreed Expander installation position prior to final installation of Vodafone Expand for Enterprise.
    • You are responsible for assessing what effect and impact Vodafone Expand may have on your information technology systems and your site, including whether your fixed broadband data allowance and bandwidth are sufficient.
    • Only 3G devices connected to Vodafone are compatible with Vodafone Expand for Enterprise devices or devices connected to other carriers will not work with Vodafone Expand for Enterprise.
    • You will require a site survey prior to installation by a Vodafone partner.
    • All installations must be within Vodafone's 2100MHz spectrum licence area and the Expander(s) cannot be moved without first notifying us.
    • Vodafone Expand for Enterprise requires configuration on your corporate firewall to enable Virtual Private Network (VPN) and direct internet access by each Expander.
    • Each Expander requires a Virtual Private Network (VPN) secured by an IPsec tunnel. Some older Routers or Modem setups are not compatible with more than one VPN. You may need to change the settings of the Router/Modem or possibly replace the hardware with a newer model before Vodafone Expand for Enterprise can be installed.
    • IT managers need to refer to the Technical Whitepaper prior to final installation.

    *The capability and performance of Vodafone Expand for Enterprise and the coverage it provides will vary due to factors such as: the limitations and availability of the Vodafone macro/outdoor network and the Vodafone core network; congestion; user numbers; local conditions (including the construction and design of the Site (i.e. the material and thickness of walls) and the presence of objects within the Site (i.e. walls, desks, pillars, filing cabinets, fixtures etc); handset and mobile broadband modem compatibility and capability; hardware; software; the quality and capability of your fixed broadband connection; download source and general internet traffic. Once the capacity and range of each Expander is reached, further telecommunications services will not be supported by Vodafone Expand for Enterprise. Refer to the Technical Whitepaper and the FAQs for more details. Before purchasing, you should ensure your fixed broadband data allowance and bandwidth are sufficient for Vodafone Expand for Enterprise and you should speak to your fixed broadband provider for details of excess data charges in the event they are incurred.
