National roaming

Vodafone has a service that extends our mobile network even further¹ throughout rural and regional Australia. It's called National Roaming and  sees us working with other network providers, to deliver you and your business better mobile phone coverage in regional areas of Victoria and Tasmania.

In areas where the Telstra GSM network complements our coverage, you can keep doing business by making and receiving mobile calls.

How to connect with National Roaming

National Roaming is not automatic so you need to contact Customer Care on 135 888 and tell us you want access to it.

If you already use International Roaming, you automatically have access to National Roaming. (However, it's not vice versa, so if you love National Roaming and want to try International Roaming next time you are overseas, be sure to call us 72 hours before you leave.)

Roaming is easy to use. Once we set up your mobile for National Roaming, you don't need to do anything else, just use it.

When you use National Roaming, you see a Telstra indicator on your mobile's display, but don't worry, it doesn't mean you receive a bill from Telstra.

If you're on a call and move out of a Vodafone coverage area, into an area where you require National Roaming, your call will drop out. But all you need to do is redial the number and you're immediately re-connected, via the Telstra network.

You stay on the Telstra network until you finish your phone call. You can stay connected to the network for up to 30 minutes after your call is finished. This may occur, even if you are back in a Vodafone coverage area.

Please note, National Roaming is not available if you choose to prepay your account.

How much does it cost?

Standard calls are billed in one second increments and cost 90c per minute.

Special charges apply for other services including Value Added Services and Special Services such as IDD. Please contact Vodafone for more information on 135 888.

Vodafone's 123 and Thru-connect services are not available on National Roaming.
