Visual Disabilities

We recognise that when you're blind or visually impaired, the spoken word becomes increasingly important — and the security that comes with owning a mobile phone can be priceless. We've worked to create products and services that are accessible, useful and affordable.

You'll also find that many of our mobile phones provide audio or tactile feedback, making it easier for you to use their features. Whether you're making calls or sending text messages, we have some innovative solutions for you.

Mobile Phones

Many mobile phones have been designed with blind or partially–sighted customers in mind. Most have a raised dot on the number 5 to help you find your way around the keypad, whilst others will make a noise when you press a key and will let you choose different ringtones for different people. You can even set up voice–activated calling, letting you call someone's number by speaking their name.

Services

Many of our standard services have particular significance if you have problems with your sight. Vodafone Voicemail will record messages if you miss a call. You can also use Vodafone's Directory Assistance service to find numbers and to connect you to the person you want.

Email is an increasingly popular way of keeping in touch, whether you're using it for business or for pleasure. A BlackBerry® is a handheld device with a small built-in keyboard, making it easy for you to send and receive email messages. Your BlackBerry® will tell you whenever a new message arrives, so there's no need to keep checking. It can even be used for standard phone calls, for text messages and for the mobile internet.

Alternatively, if you prefer using a laptop computer, Vodafone Mobile Broadband (within our 3G zone) and Vodafone Mobile Internet (within our GPRS areas) will give you a completely wireless connection to the internet. Once it's installed, it's easy to connect to the web and your email account using Vodafone's 3G Mobile Broadband and GPRS networks*. View Mobile Broadband Plans and Terms and Conditions.

*Coverage

All Vodafone services subject to device capabilities and network limitations and availability. 3G services are available in Vodafone's 3G areas - compatible device required. In metropolitan and some regional areas, Vodafone's 3G network operates on UMTS 2100Mhz. In smaller regional areas with Vodafone coverage, Vodafone's 3G network operates on UMTS 900Mhz. All 3G 900Mhz devices available from Vodafone are 2100Mhz compatible. However, not all 2100Mhz devices are 900Mhz compatible. Customers with devices that are 2100Mhz compatible but which are not 900Mhz compatible will experience GPRS (or Edge, where available) coverage in 3G 900Mhz areas. Slower speeds can be expected outside Vodafone's Mobile Broadband areas. Individual customer experience may vary - many factors affect access, capacity and speed. See vodafone.com.au/coverage for details.
