Phones

Today's mobile phone technology offers a range of solutions if you're blind or partially sighted. Although there is no ideal mobile phone for anyone, we have some suggestions to help you choose a new mobile:

What features should I look for?

Large, well–spaced keypads:

look for mobile phones with well spaced keypads.

Raised keys:

most mobiles have a raised dot on or around the
number 5 to help you navigate the keypad.

Audio feedback:

keys that make a sound when you press them; a
warning 'beep' when the battery is running low.

Back–lit keypad:

makes it easier to see the keys.

Adjustable contrast:

a contrast or brightness control for the mobile phone's
         screen.

Adjustable font size:

the option to change the size of characters on the
         screen.

A large clear screen display:

         easier to see on–screen information.

Voice calling:

add a spoken name to phonebook entries so you can
call someone's number by speaking their name.

Profiles:

choose different ringtones for different people.

Audible battery indicator:

makes a sound when your mobile’s battery is running
         low.
