In 2011 an extension of the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes title partnership was announced with Vodafone remaining the as the major partner and expanding to the total communications partner until the conclusion of the 2013 season.

The Vodafone McLaren Mercedes partnership continues to bring Vodafone customers closer to the passion of Formula 1 throughout the world. The first race of the 2011 Season was in Australia and Vodafone was pleased to provide fantastic at ground experiences for customers at the Vodafone Vantage Point and Vodafone McLaren Mercedes Pit Stop Challenge. For the first time ever we launched 'The Third Driver' competition. One lucky customer had the opportunity to be part of the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes Team (or 'The Third Driver') for the weekend. Our Third Driver shadowed the team throughout the weekend in what had to be the ultimate money can't buy experience for an F1 fan.
