Vodafone Roaming – Set up

We make it easy to use your mobile overseas.

Before you leave Australia, it's important that you switch your international roaming on. Then check if you can roam in the countries you're travelling to and make yourself aware of our international rates.

Setting up roaming

Contract

You can do this in My Vodafone - located in the 'My Vodafone' tab on Vodafone Central (on your mobile), or online. You can also call 1555 from your mobile.

Decide whether Vodafone World™ (default) or Vodafone Traveller™ (Opt-in) rates are best for the countries you are visiting

Prepaid Customers

The great thing is, international roaming with Vodafone Traveller™ is already set up and ready to use. So all you need to do is remember to pack your mobile phone and turn it on when you arrive at your destination.

Remember to top up before you leave so you have enough credit. You can do this online at My Vodafone. Consider registering your credit card details with us before you go so you can top up overseas if you need to

Check if you can use your mobile in the country you are visiting.

Some networks use different frequencies.

  • Tri-band handset required for the USA, Canada, the Caribbean and South America.

  • Quad band handset required for some Southern and Central American countries.

  • 3G handset required for Japan and South Korea.

  • Check in your mobile phone user guide for band frequency

Voicemail

To save on roaming costs, we recommend that you divert all calls unconditionally to your voicemail off. If you do not do this and your calls are conditionally forwarded to voicemail (i.e. when busy or no answer), you will be charged the applicable roaming rate to both receive and make a call. Arriving at your destination.

Once you arrive at your destination, you'll receive a welcome TXT message to tell you how much it'll cost to call home, as well as some other useful information. Your mobile should automatically start searching for a network and display one of the local networks available. If this doesn't happen, you can search for a network manually instead.

To do this, you'll need to follow these quick steps:

  • Go to the 'settings' menu on your phone

  • Choose 'phone settings'

  • Pick a network
