Outstanding Highway Coverage

A big mission for a big country. One of our missions is to continually improve and extend our Australian mobile network. As part of a Commonwealth Government initiative, called "Mobile Phones on Highways", Vodafone improved coverage on 9,963km of major highways across Australia.

Highways included in the project were:

  • Port Douglas to Adelaide, via The Captain Cook, The Bruce, The Pacific and The Princes Highways, through Cairns, Brisbane, Sydney, Eden, Melbourne, Mt Gambier and Murray Bridge
  • Melbourne to Brisbane, via The Hume, The Newell and The Cunningham Highways
  • Melbourne to Adelaide, via The Western and The Dukes Highways
  • Sydney to Brisbane via the Sydney Newcastle Freeway and New England Highway
  • Sydney to Adelaide, via The Hume and The Sturt Highways
  • Sydney to Melbourne, via The Hume and The Sturt Highways
  • Hobart to Burnie, via The Midland and The Bass Highways
  • Canberra to Goulburn and Yass, via The Federal and The Barton Highways

The project provided more than 100,000 square km of new coverage, to almost 200,000 regional and rural Australians. On average there are one million trips on these vital arterial routes each day.

We continue to look for opportunities to extend our highway coverage to areas where the number of travellers is on the increase.
