Setting up for overseas

What do I need to know before I roam?

First, you need to decide what services you want to use overseas?

  • Make and receive calls and TXTs
  • Mobile Broadband (Data Card/USB Modem)
  • Mobile Email, mobile internet, live!, PXT® and other data services (GPRS & 3G)

Then answer the following questions:

  • Have you checked you can use your mobile/device in the country or countries you travel to? Click here for more info.
  • If you want to use mobile broadband overseas, have you connected to one of our Roaming Data Bundles? Click here for more info.
  • Have you contacted Customer Care on 1555 or checked My Vodafone online (postpay customers only), at least 72 hours before departure to check that you have roaming activated and, if required, opted into Vodafone Traveller?
  • Some networks use different frequencies. Have you checked you can use your mobile in the country you’re visiting?
    • Tri-band handset required for the USA, Canada, the Caribbean and South America.
    • Quad band handset required for some Southern and Central American countries.
    • 3G handset required for Japan and South Korea.
    • If your phone is not compatible with the country you’re visiting, you can hire a Vodafone mobile from most Australian international airports. Call 1300 365 360 or visit vodarent.com.au.
  • Are you on a Prepay Cap or Plan? If so, make sure you top up before you leave. You can do this online at My Vodafone. Consider registering your credit card details with us before you go so you can top up overseas if you need to.
  • Do you want to use voicemail while away? Click here to find out more.
