Bali is a fantastic holiday destination, which boasts an impressive fusion of culture, nature, nightlife and shopping. Best of all, Indonesia is one of over 100 countries where you can use Vodafone’s $5 Roaming – so you can use your Vodafone plan for $5 extra per day during your stay in Bali. There are many reasons why Bali is a favourite tourist destination for Australians. Here are just a few of them.
Temples
The famous Buddhist temples of Bali are truly a sight to behold. Located in picturesque and engaging settings, the Balinese temples give visitors the opportunity to experience the rich spiritual history of the island. Uluwatu Temple is one of Bali’s most iconic tourist destinations. Situated on a cliff face overlooking the ocean, there is much to see here, with traditional Buddhist ceremonies being performed and hiking paths nearby that lead to a beautiful sunset view. The Monkey Forest Sanctuary in Ubud can create hilarious memories as you can interact with monkeys in this forest temple. These monkeys are more than eager to climb you and rummage through your bag for food – so watch out! Tanah Lot Temple is uniquely located offshore on a rock in the ocean. Tanah Lot is only reachable during low tide so make sure you check tidal times before going. It also houses some civets who help make the infamous Kopi Luwak coffee which you may try at the temple.
Clubs
What better way to experience your favourite band or DJ than with a serene ocean view and a drink in your hand? Bali is home to many amazing nightclubs, bars and music venues which host world-class talent. Potato Head offers a large pool along the shore for if you decide to pop into the ocean waves. And when there’s a music performance, the stage is set up right in front of the pool – so you can enjoy the music up close from the comfort of the water. Omnia dayclub in Uluwatu takes its namesake from the dance music powerhouse Omnia nightclub in Las Vegas, and it’s easy to see how it lives up to its expectations. With a futuristic design and towering above the ocean, Omnia looks and feels exclusive. Spice Beach Club is where to go when you’d like to relax, sip a bintang or share some sisha with friends on a beachside lounge. Known for an assortment of cocktails and showcasing traditional Balinese performances, Spice Beach club is a necessary visit.
Nature
From beaches to jungles, there is always a gorgeous natural site within reach. One of the most famous of Bali’s landscapes is the Ubud Rice Terraces, sporting tiered flats of rice fields. These impeccable waves of green are adorned with speckles of palm trees and huts. If a mountain hike is more your style, Mount Batur is an active volcano with a view of the whole island. Mount Batur is best trekked early morning with the sun coming up and Batur’s peak poking through the morning fog. Gitgit waterfall is another lush option for the nature seeker, with a series of waterfalls which you may swim in or shower under the cascading waters.
Shopping
Whether you’re shopping for clothes, food or homewares, there’s something for everyone when it comes to Bali. Poppies Lane is no exception and is one of the most popular street shopping destinations in Bali, offering a variety of options for all your shopping needs. If you’re after a more traditional shopping experience, Kuta Beachwalk is a shopping mall with designer brands and impressive architecture. Night markets are another approach to shopping with a unique atmosphere. Sanur night market is a great place to grab a snack and exciting deals.
Recreational Activities
Bali has many water-related recreational activities for you to try. Waterbom Water Park is a great place for the whole family with rides of every intensity level. You can relax by the pool or enjoy the trill of the waterslides. If you’d like to explore under the sea, take a short drive up to Padangbai where you can snorkel and find an array of colours as fish dart around the reefs. For some more exhilarating entertainment you can partake in white water rafting on the Ayung River. Perfectly safe for those with little experience, rafting on the Ayung River is loads of fun to be had.
