Vodafone to expand Hobart CBD operation

Tasmanian operations to be centralised in new Customer Care Centre

Vodafone has announced it is centralising its Tasmanian operations by expanding its new Customer Care Centre in the Hobart CBD.

In coming months, all staff will move to the company’s state-of-the-art centre in Bathurst Street, with its Kingston centre to close by the end of the year.

“Our new customer care centre in the heart of Hobart is a world class facility,” said Vodafone’s General Manager of Customer Care, Matt Paterson. “It offers exceptional amenities for employees in a central location, and means that we can have all our teams together under one roof. All our staff will now be able to enjoy the benefits of working in such a great environment.”

Vodafone took its first calls at the Kingston site in March 1999, and was officially opened a month later.

“It was a tough decision to leave Kingston as Vodafone has had a great relationship with the local community over the past 16 years,” said Mr Paterson. “We thank Kingston for its support.”

Staff began moving into the new centre in December, and are already occupying three levels of the building. To accommodate all its Tasmanian customer care and support staff, Vodafone will be fitting out another level taking its total capital investment in the building to $12 million.

“The opening of the customer care centre is a long-term investment by Vodafone in the Tasmanian economy and a major investment in customer service,” said Mr Paterson. “Vodafone is now one of Tasmania’s largest private employers.”

Mr Paterson said the Hobart Customer Care Centre has created hundreds of local jobs during the design, construction and fit-out of the site, revitalised a key part of the Hobart CBD and provided a boost to surrounding shops and businesses.

“Vodafone aims to provide world-class customer service, and the Hobart centre is our flagship,” he said.

“We’re really proud that our commitment to locally based service means that we are able to support local employment and businesses in Tasmania.”
