Vodafone to launch Australia’s largest smartphone data offer

New sumo-sized plan & offer equals a massive 20GB

Vodafone today announced it is answering the call of data-hungry Australians by delivering the nation’s largest data allowance for smartphones.

Available this Wednesday 9 September, Vodafone’s new $130 Red plan over 24 month offers:

  • A brand new premium smartphone (device cost may be additional)
  • 15GB of data (upgraded to 20GB if you sign-up before 3 November, 2015) for use in Aus.
  • Unlimited standard national calls and TXT for use in Aus.
  • Unlimited standard international calls to 10 selected destinations for use in Aus.
  • Access to the company’s award-winning $5 Roaming and a complimentary 12-month subscription to Spotify Premium, Stan or The Age.com.au or SMH.com.au.

The news comes on the back of Vodafone’s recent shake-up of plans to deliver simplicity, more value and tailored options for smartphone customers.
“Our new $130 Red plan is especially built to keep pace with our highest data using customers who are inseparable from their smartphones,” said Stephen Smyth, Vodafone’s General Manager of Products.

“This new plan delivers on our commitment to give customers more peace of mind, value and choice to tailor their plans according to the way they want to use their phones.”

According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, 4G mobile data usage has doubled year-on-year^ and there are now 2.9 million 4G capable devices operating on the Vodafone network.

Mr Smyth said he believed the combination of the latest high-tech smartphones, fast 4G speeds and large data allowances would encourage customers to do more than they normally would on their mobile devices.

“20GB of data gives customers the freedom to watch a movie or two every week, stream music for several hours each day or enjoy live gaming on the go,” he said.

In addition to enjoying more data-rich services, Mr Smyth said a larger smartphone data plan could be a substitute for a home broadband service or used by families through a shared plan.

“For customers who use their home internet to watch the occasional movie, browse the internet, shop or keep in touch with friends and family, this plan could be a great alternative for them.

“Equally, 20GB of mobile data is more than enough for the average Australian family’s smartphone usage, providing an affordable solution for households looking to cut down on their mobile phone and internet bills,” said Mr Smyth.
The $130 plan will be available online, in store and via phone from Wednesday 9 September, 2015.
