Vodafone brings mobile coverage to Barraba for the first time

Three new towers delivering an additional 770 square kilometres of coverage

Vodafone Australia, together with the Federal Member for New England, Barnaby Joyce, today announced the switch-on of three new mobile sites north of Tamworth.

Built under the Federal Government’s Mobile Black Spot Program, the new sites extend Vodafone’s 4G mobile services to an additional 2330 homes and businesses. Two of the new sites are located near the town of Barraba, with one directly along the famous Fossickers Way. The third is located near the town of Manilla.

Vodafone Regional Manager Kevin Biles said the three new sites are closing the coverage gap for residents and travellers heading in and out of Tamworth.

“The new sites near Barraba and Manilla add more than 770 square kilometres of 4G mobile coverage to our footprint in New England. The sites mark the first time locals in Barraba have access to 4G mobile coverage giving them the opportunity to take advantage of the many benefits mobile communications offers.”

“We have also added a total of more than 135 kilometres along the main highway leading into Tamworth, the B95 highway, or Fossickers Way, to ensure our customers stay safe and connected while they’re on the move.”

In conjunction with Vodafone’s other sites in the area, customers now have continuous 4G coverage between Barraba and Tamworth, along Fossickers Way.

Federal Member for New England, Barnaby Joyce said the continued investment is vital to deliver more mobile coverage to regional areas.

“This is real infrastructure, real investment being delivered in the New England electorate to make sure regional communities like ours can provide residents and businesses with the mobile coverage they need and deserve,” Mr Joyce said.

“Under the program to date, Vodafone has added more than 2700 square kilometres of 4G coverage across the New England region. We have built sites across the region including near Attunga, Hallsville, Warral, Piallamore and Duri, to deliver more connectivity and choice to residents and businesses in the neighbouring communities,” said Mr Biles.
