Vodafone ready for competition with new 35 day prepaid plan

Millions of Australians could save on their phone bills each year by switching their prepay service to Vodafone

Vodafone today announced it is giving prepaid customers a great deal with the launch of a 35 day prepaid expiry period.

Vodafone’s new prepaid plans – Talk Combo and Data Combo – offer a 35 day expiry period on plans $40 and above. This means that customers recharging every 35 days will pay for their service 10 times a year compared to those recharging every 28 days who will make 13 payments a year.

Vodafone Consumer Business Unit Director Ben McIntosh said the introduction of a 35 day expiry period breaks ranks with rivals and offers prepaid consumers a fair go for their mobile service.

“Many Prepaid consumers have said they find 28 day expiry periods unfair. Many people have asked why they should pay an extra month a year for their mobile phone service,” said Mr McIntosh.

“By giving these new plans a 35 day expiry instead of a 28 day expiry, customers will have ample time to use their inclusions and will be recharging less frequently annually, saving them money.

“There’s no denying that 28 day plans have been a sore point in the industry, and we want to lead the industry forward to give consumers greater choice of expiry period.

Mr McIntosh estimates the combined revenue of providers from the creation of a ‘13th’ month totals more than $155 million each year.*

“Competitors who care more about their shareholders than their customers will find it hard to give up this revenue, but we know first-hand that profitability can follow if you do the right things by customers,” said Mr McIntosh.

“This is why I am encouraging the millions of Australians on prepaid plans to ask their provider why they have to pay for an additional month every year for the privilege of being a prepaid customer.

“They will more than likely say that it’s because everyone else is doing it, which is an excuse that no longer stands.”

In addition to generous data, customers on Data Combo and Talk Combo plans will also enjoy unlimited standard national calls and texts within Australia. Price points range from $30 – $60, with recharges over $40 offering the 35 day expiry period.
