Vodafone Red now with mobile subscription to The Sydney Morning Herald/The Age

From today new and upgrading Vodafone Red customers will receive the choice of a mobile subscription to The Sydney Morning Herald (SMH)/The Age or a Spotify Premium subscription at no extra charge.

“The Sydney Morning Herald/The Age are leaders in delivering breaking news, information, sport and entertainment to Australians on mobile devices,” said Stephen Smyth, Vodafone’s General Manager of Postpaid.

“You only need to look around on a train, bus or tram during the morning commute to know that more people are getting their news via their smartphone or tablet than ever before. Data usage is climbing every year and it’s this sort of premium content that’s driving it,” said Mr Smyth.

The news follows last month’s announcement of Vodafone’s exclusive content partnership with award-winning digital music service Spotify to give Red customers access to Spotify Premium. The service lets users stream, find, and share their favourite songs on smartphones, tablets, computers and through compatible home entertainment systems, completely ad free. Spotify Premium also offers higher quality streaming and the ability to take their music “Offline” on the go.

Customers invited to choose their own 4G adventure

Vodafone says any customers who upgrades or signs up to a 12- or 24-month Red plan have the choice of an “entertainment” or “news” pack.

Customers who opt for a mobile subscription to the SMH/The Age will receive access to read an unlimited number of articles on smh.com.au/theage.com.au and to Today’s Paper, a digital replica of the daily print newspaper.

Vodafone makes 4G count with premium content

Vodafone’s 4G coverage now reaches 95% of Australia’s metropolitan population. There are now almost two million devices connected around Australia to the Vodafone 4G network.

“Vodafone 4G has never been more compelling,” said Mr Smyth. “We know content is king – which is why we’re bringing our customers the best of news and entertainment to enjoy on Vodafone’s lightning-fast 4G, now in more places than ever before.”

About 6.4 million (44 per cent) Australians streamed music, movies, TV programs, video clips – a 21% increase over the past five years, according to latest figures from the Australian Communications Media Authority’s 2013-2014 Annual Report.
