Delivering more coverage for local residents and visitors
Wednesday, 25 July 2018 – Vodafone and the Federal Member for Parkes, Mark Coulton, today announced the switch-on of a new mobile tower at Oakdene south of Dubbo, delivering a boost to 4G coverage at the nearby Taronga Western Plains Zoo.
The tower delivers about 53 square kilometres of new 4G coverage to the world famous zoo as well as Oakdene, Cumboogle, Butlers Falls and Eschol. It also adds new Vodafone 4G coverage along parts of the Newell and Mitchell Highways.
Built under the Federal Government’s Mobile Black Spot Program, Vodafone customers will now have access to continuous 4G connectivity between Oakdene and Dubbo. The tower also extends Vodafone’s 4G coverage footprint in the area to provide continuous 4G coverage along Obley Road and Benolong Road.
Vodafone Regional Manager, Rhys Morgan, said the new mobile site near Oakdene is another step in providing improved mobile communications and more choice for Australians living and travelling in regional areas.
“This tower provides a boost to mobile coverage in Dubbo’s most famous attraction, the Taronga Western Plains Zoo. Visitors can now confidently share all the exciting moments from their visit to the zoo with family and friends using Vodafone’s supercharged 4G network. The additional coverage along major roads leading into Dubbo helps travellers stay safe and connected while they’re on the move” said Mr Morgan.
“We continue to invest in our mobile network in central New South Wales to deliver more mobile services and choice to communities across the state. The additional coverage provided by the new tower near Oakdene gives local residents, businesses and visitors more opportunity to take advantage of the many benefits strong mobile communications can offer.”
Federal Member for Parkes, Mark Coulton said the delivery of Vodafone’s new mobile tower is a welcome addition for the communities around Oakdene and another significant step towards diminishing coverage gaps around Dubbo.
“The Federal Government’s Mobile Black Spot Program has been instrumental in delivering improved coverage to communities in the Parkes electorate and providing more choice for local residents. Vodafone has demonstrated its commitment to improving communications in regional areas and we are pleased to officially welcome the new site in Oakdene,” said Mr Coulton.
