Getting your broadband set up can be frustrating, especially when you have to deal with no internet access while waiting for installation. Vodafone has listened to people’s concerns about missing out on internet access or paying out of their own pockets for mobile data while they wait for their broadband service to be installed or repaired. Luckily, we’ve found an innovative solution to this problem while waiting for Vodafone nbnTM installation and are also offering backup during repair of a localised nbn™ fault.
We started this journey by speaking to many Australians over the past year about their internet experience to understand their concerns and needs. They’ve told us that they don’t care about the kind of technology their internet runs on – they just want it to work, and always work.
Another key learning was that customers were concerned by being left without internet access during installation for an indefinite period of time.
To really enhance the experience for broadband customers, we want to take advantage of our 4G and 3G mobile networks, which we’re continuously improving to get right. We’re using the network to provide a temporary connection when people need it most: in-between sign-up and service installation, and also in the event where repairs need to be carried out by nbn to resolve a fault affecting an individual customer’s fixed service.
Both services will be available for up to 30 days at a time with maximum speeds of 12Mbps for downloads and 1Mbps for uploads to ensure customers can keep going. Speeds will vary based on your network coverage and location.*
The way we’ll be offering our customers this capability is through our hybrid modem and router, the Vodafone Wi-Fi Hub™. This device can support both a broadband and mobile broadband connection, and will be provided to all Vodafone nbnTM customers. The service will not work with other fixed devices or modems.
Over the coming months as we get closer to launch, we’ll continue to work closely with customers to learn how we can make their broadband experience as great as possible.

We are proud to be the only provider in the market to offer this 3G/4G back-up service complimentary to all its fixed line customers by default while other providers charge customers extra to access the service. This simple solution plays to Vodafone’s strengths and will make a real difference to our customers’ experience.

* Vodafone is giving customers a complimentary service of unlimited internet access via our 3G or 4G mobile network (‘Service’) during two periods. For the first period, the Service will be offered in-between sign-up and Vodafone nbn™ installation. This first period will commence upon receipt of the Vodafone Wi-Fi Hub™ and end when your Vodafone nbn™ is activated. If you are experiencing a localised nbn™ fault that requires resolution by an nbn™ technician the second period will commence upon confirmation to you from Vodafone and will end when your Vodafone nbn™ is re-activated. During both periods the Service is only available when you use the Vodafone Wi-Fi Hub™ for a maximum of 30 consecutive days. Speeds during these periods are throttled at a theoretical maximum of 12Mbps for downloads and 1 Mbps for uploads.
