Take a stroll down Orchard Road
Singapore’s Orchard Road is a haven for shopping addicts. This famous stretch of road features so many malls that you’ll be hard pressed visiting them all in just one day. A number of the main shopping centres are connected through air-conditioned underpasses allowing you to take refuge from Singapore’s humidity while you continue your shopping spree. For those who are not so keen on shopping, Orchard Road is also home to the Istana, the office of the President of the Republic of Singapore. The grounds of the Istana are opened to the public for certain occasions throughout the year, such as Chinese New Year and National Day.
Observe animals after dark at the Night Safari
A mere 30-minute drive from the hustle and bustle of Singapore city, the award-winning Night Safari is the world’s first nocturnal wildlife park and hosts approximately 100 species (41% of which are threatened). Here, you can observe exotic and endangered nocturnal animals during their most active periods, including indigenous species such as the tapir and the Malayan tiger. Hop on a complimentary guided tram ride with audio commentary to get information on the different animals and zones within the park as you explore. Don’t miss the Creatures of the Night Show where you can witness the natural talents of animals like the binturong and the civet – just make sure to get there early for a seat!
Stroll through the Gardens by the Bay
Feast your eyes on a nature park unlike any other in the world at Singapore’s Gardens by the Bay. These public gardens span a whopping 101 hectares and are a unique combination of greenery and futuristic architecture. The park features Supertrees – ultramodern vertical gardens towering 25 to 50m overhead that will make you feel as if you have stepped into an alien planet. Take the 128m long suspended OCBC Skyway for unparalleled views of the gardens. And as the sun sets, watch the gardens illuminate themselves in colour with the daily Garden Rhapsody light and sound show in the Supertree Grove.
Explore Sentosa Island
Formerly used as a fortress for the British military, Sentosa is an island sitting just below Singapore’s south coast that has since transformed into a resort destination. To begin your adventure even before you’ve stepped foot on Sentosa, consider catching the Singapore Cable Car to the island. This scenic route will give you views of the harbour as well as the island. For those looking for a more relaxing trip, unwind on one of the island’s many beaches or learn more about Singapore’s wartime and colonial history at the military museum Fort Siloso. Thrillseekers will love the Skyline Luge Sentosa or the Mega Adventure Park – Singapore. If you have the time, check out Resorts World Sentosa which offers attractions like Universal Studios Singapore, the S.E.A. Aquarium and Adventure Cove Waterpark.
Get your fill at Lau Pa Sat
A trip to Singapore would not be complete without sampling some of the local food. Swing by the hawker centre Lau Pa Sat (also known as Telok Ayer Market) to feast on some of the many delicacies Singapore has to offer. The market also doubles as an historic building, having been constructed in the 19th century. Ensure you visit on an empty stomach though – choosing between the many hawker stalls is no easy task!
