This International Women’s Day, we’re turning the spotlight to women who are leaders at Vodafone to get advice for reaching the top. We asked four women who are leaders in their respective business units about what motivates them, what has helped them succeed, and what advice they would give to other aspiring leaders. Winlai Wai Vodafone

Winlai Wai, Head of Sales – Dealer Partners

What motivates you as a leader at Vodafone?

The opportunity to influence, inspire, develop and support positive change and growth with my peers and team. I am fortunate to lead an amazing team, and as a leader, my goal is to create an environment that fosters trust and collaboration.

What do you believe has helped you succeed most in your career?

I believe the successes I’ve achieved have mainly been down to planning, my team, learning and development, and mind-set. Over the years, I have learnt the importance of having a strong vision and seeing it through. I’ve also learnt that a company, function or leader’s success will not come just from one individual, but through combined team efforts.

It’s important to be open to continuous learning – I have learnt so much from people I have worked with – my leaders and teams; and also through leadership training and development programs at Vodafone. Finally, my belief is that we are all resilient and have the capacity to deal with anything life throws at us, so we need to trust ourselves, decide what it is that we want and then turn that into action.

What advice would you give to other aspiring leaders?

Have a vision and a plan, communicate and articulate your vision succinctly, and ensure collaboration exists not just within your team but across other teams within the business to ensure success in executing the plan.

At Vodafone, we’re passionate about developing our leaders and giving our employees ongoing opportunities to learn and grow. We’re proud of our incredible leadership team, and can’t wait to see what they achieve next. Congratulations to all the fantastic women who are out there making a difference!
