Temporary Disaster Roaming (TDR) is a new capability that may allow your phone to connect to another available mobile network during a natural disaster, such as a bushfire, cyclone or flood, when your usual network is not working.
When available, it can help you:
It’s important to note that TDR is not always available. It only works when another mobile network is operational and certain criteria are met, and it is activated only when it is safe to do so. TDR is different to Triple Zero (000) calling. Australians can already call Triple Zero from an approved device on any available mobile network if their own network isn’t available. This existing functionality, known as “camp-on”, is built into mobile phones and works independently of TDR.

Please note: Power outages are one of the most common causes of network disruption during natural disasters. This can prevent TDR from being activated.
When disaster strikes, staying connected is critical. TDR provides an additional way to help Australians stay connected in some regional and rural communities during emergencies.
This is a major industry initiative developed by Australia’s three main mobile networks in partnership with government. The capability launches ahead of this disaster season and will continue to evolve.
Many mobile phones may be capable of accessing TDR. To access TDR, your device needs to support VoLTE roaming (Voice over LTE).
To use VoLTE roaming, you need a Vodafone approved device that is VoLTE enabled, and be on an eligible plan. If you have a device that wasn’t purchased through Vodafone, you may not be able to use VoLTE on our network, but it’s important to check if your device is compatible.
Apple iPhone: National data roaming is enabled by default on devices that are still supported by Apple's iOS updates – no action is required.
Android (Samsung Galaxy, Google Pixel, Motorola, Oppo and other handsets): Android devices vary in compatibility, and you should check with your manufacturer on how to enable VoLTE roaming. Some older Android handsets may not support VoLTE roaming.
