Activating a new prepaid SIM
If you purchased a Starter Pack with a physical SIM, you have 365 days to activate it before it expires. If you purchase an eSIM, you have 30 days to activate it before it expires.
When you activate the SIM, you’ll need to provide us with your name, address, email address, card details and valid identification. If you’re under 18 years or age, you must have the consent of your parent or a responsible adult.
How to activate a prepaid SIM.
Insert the SIM
If you have a physical SIM card, insert it into your device. If you have an eSIM, skip this step.
Activation key and valid ID
Have the activation key on your SIM Starter Pack or eSIM email and a valid form of ID on hand.

Accepted forms of identification for the activation.
Here are the accepted forms of ID you can provide when activating your prepaid service. We don't accept expired ID and if you're not an Australian resident, an international passport is the only identification we accept. We'll also need your Australian residential address.
If you’re activating your prepaid service online or over the phone, you’ll need one of the following:
- Australian Driver Licence
- Australian Passport
- International Passport
If you’re activating your prepaid service at a Vodafone store, you’ll need one of the following:
- Australian Driver Licence
- Australian Passport
- International Passport
- Government Issued Proof of Age Card
- Defence Force ID
If you don’t have any of the above types of ID, you can provide two of the following:
- Credit/debit card
- Medicare card
- A phone bill/statement
- Bank Passbook
- Council Rates Statement
