Frequently asked questions

What is Vodafone Vision?

Vision is a privately owned fibre network, separate to the nbn® network. It offers a competitive range of basic, mid and high-speed plans, suitable for light to heavy internet users.

Our Vision plans run on Fibre To The Building (FTTB), Very-High Bitrate Digital Subscriber Line (VDSL) and Hybrid Fibre Coaxial (HFC) technology.

I have an existing broadband services. How can I switch to Vodafone Vision?

Typically, your address can be switched to Vision with little downtime. You can continue to use your existing services until your Vision appointment, where in most cases a Vision installer will disconnect your existing services, in order to connect you to the Vision network. Switching is simple, just call our expert Sales team on 1300 801 122 to get started.

Important: moving to Vision won’t automatically cancel your existing broadband or phone services. After you’re connected, contact your current provider to cancel your services, otherwise you may continue to be billed.

How long does it take to get connected to Vodafone Vision?

If a Vision technician needs to visit your home, here’s what to know:

  • If you’re not owner of the property or the address is under strata title, you’ll need permission for installation
  • We’ll contact you to book a suitable appointment
  • Someone aged 18 or over must be home
  • Vodafone will deliver the service up to the network boundary point (typically the wall socket in your home)
  • You’re responsible for internal cabling and wiring within your premises
  • You’ll need to set up your Vodafone-supplied modem or your own compatible modem
Can I use existing wiring/smart wiring?

Smart wiring is not included with any Vodafone Vision installation. By switching to Vision your existing smart wiring setup may need to be re-wired to work with Vision, depending on the type of Vision installation your premises requires. You'll need to hire a registered cabler if you'd like to have any additional home network wiring installed or to re-wire your existing cabling.

Will my medical alarm, security alarm, EFTPOS machine or fax machine work on the Vision network?

Some devices and services may not work on the Vision network. This can include:

  • Medical alarms or devices
  • Security alarms
  • EFTPOS machines
  • Lift emergency phones
  • Fax services
  • Existing pay TV services

Check with your device manufacturer or service provider before switching. Vodafone does not offer Priority Assistance.

Terms and conditions

Vodafone Vision plans
For personal use by approved customers in select locations only. Subject to service qualification check. Vision FTTB is available in select buildings only. Vision VDSL is available at select locations in the ACT. Vision HFC is available at select locations in the Mildura, Geelong and Ballarat areas. The VisionMax plan (for FTTB and VDSL technology) are only available in selected Vision GFAST areas. Vodafone Vision plans require that you either bring your own Compatible Modem or use a Vodafone provided Compatible Modem (‘Modem’). Vodafone owns the Modem and retains full legal title and beneficial ownership in the Modem: (i) for refurbished Modems that are issued to you under your Plan – the refurbished Modem must be returned to Vodafone within 30 days of your Plan being cancelled or withdrawn. No Modem Non-Return fee applies; (ii) for all other modems, including new Modems that are issued to you under your Plan – you must return the Modem within 30 days of your Plan begin cancelled or withdrawn. If your Plan is cancelled or withdrawn within 24 months of connecting and you do not return the Modem in Good Working Order within 30 days, a Modem Non-Return Fee will apply.  The Non-Return Fee is $0 when you stay connected for 24 months (‘Device Period’). If you do not return the Modem, you will be charged a Non-Return Fee calculated by $7.50 x number of months remaining of the Device Period. The total maximum cost of not returning the Modem is $180. Good Working Order means the returned Modem is near new with only minor signs of wear and includes all original equipment. If you require a modem replacement, you may be provided with a new or refurbished modem and the terms applicable to that type of modem will apply. You must connect for a minimum of one month. Recurring monthly plan fees are charged until the end of the month in which you notify that you wish to cancel. You will be charged for using your plan from the point of Vision activation at your premises. If you bring your own Compatible Modem, it must comply with the minimum specifications available at vodafone.com.au. Devices that don’t support Wi-Fi 6 and Gigabit Ethernet may not be able to achieve the speeds available on Vision Max. You should check with your device manufacturer or check the device specifications on your Compatible Modem to identify the speed capabilities and limitations of the device. Vodafone Vision is a data-only service and is not compatible with your home phone line service meaning you may no longer be able to use your landline (or existing phone number) for calls after you sign-up. Vodafone Vision service may also impact or interfere with existing technology, devices or services at your premises including medical devices, alarms, EFTPOS machines, lift emergency phones and some email or fax services.

Vision installation
A technician appointment is required to install Vodafone Vision. The Vision technician will need access to your home and someone aged 18+ must be home. If you do not own the property, you must obtain consent from the owner in order to have Vodafone Vision installed. Vodafone is responsible for delivering the service to the network boundary point at your premises. You are responsible for all cabling and wiring within your premises. Where cabling does not exist or you have a fault with the wiring in your premises, you must arrange for your own contractor to rectify this. You are responsible for setting up your TP-Link VX420-G2H and your Wi-Fi network.

Vodafone Vision speeds
The speed tier represents the theoretical maximum possible speed available during off-peak periods. Internet speeds on this plan are variable and you will typically experience much slower speeds than the maximum connection speed available on your plan. Actual throughput speeds could vary due to various factors including interference, customer cabling and equipment, download source, and line length. Actual speed upon installation will be in the following ranges (download/upload): 45-50Mbps/17-20Mbps for Vision50; 70-100Mbps/20-40Mbps for Vision100; and 251Mbps-1Gbps/20-50Mbps for VisionMax. For more information on speed tiers and to further understand and compare plans please see our Speed Guide.

Typical evening upload speed is estimated by reference to the maximum upload speed for the plan. These are not guaranteed speeds and you may experience lower speeds during this period and at other times.

Vodafone Vision 4G Backup
Vodafone 4G Back-up is a complimentary service for Vodafone Vision plans available only with use of the Vodafone provided TP-Link VX420-G2H (“Modem”). It provides an interim internet connection using the Vodafone 4G network in Vodafone Coverage Areas only. It is only available using the Modem with a Vodafone SIM on our network. 4G Back-up is available from when you receive your Modem until your Vision service is fully activated or for a period of 30 consecutive days (whichever occurs first). This service will also be automatically activated if you lose connection to Vodafone Vision during confirmed local Vision faults. You will be able to use the Backup service until the fault is resolved or for a period of 30 consecutive days (whichever occurs first). Service performance varies depending on network coverage and your location. Speeds for this service are limited to a maximum of 20Mbps (download) and 2Mbps (upload). Our Fair Use Policy applies.
