What are the different types of nbn™ technologies?
Vodafone nbn™ supports a number of different nbn™ technologies. Each technology uses a different method to connect your premises to a fibre optic line. The nbn™ technology that your connection uses depends entirely on where you live.

Technology type
Installation process
Fibre to the Premises (FTTP)

nbn will connect a fibre optic line all the way to your premises.

Hybrid Fibre Coaxial (HFC)
nbn will connect the nearest fibre node to your premises via a cable network.

Fibre to the Node (FTTN)
nbn will connect a nearby fibre node to your premises with the existing copper network. Usually, this fibre node will be housed in a street cabinet.

Fibre to the Curb (FTTC)
nbn will connect nearby fibre to your premises with the existing copper network. Generally, the fibre will be located outside your premises within the nearby pit.

Fibre to the Building (FTTB)
nbn will connect a fibre node to your premises using the network technology in your building. Usually, this fibre node will be located in the communications room of your building.

Will I have to switch to nbn™?

Your existing phone and internet services will no longer work once nbn™ has been available in your area for 18 months. To continue using Fixed Broadbrand and voice services, you will need to move to the nbn™ network.

Individuals and businesses are not automatically switched over to the nbn™ network and will need to get in touch with a phone or internet provider like Vodafone to make the change.

How do I sign up to Vodafone nbn™?

The easiest way to sign up to a Vodafone nbn™ plan is online.

Otherwise, you can sign up to a Vodafone nbn™ in selected stores.

Do you offer a landline phone with Vodafone nbn™?

Because you don’t need a landline phone to use Vodafone nbn™, we don’t offer them with our plans. We do, however, offer mobile phone plans that come with unlimited standard national calls and text to use in Australia.

If you currently have a landline phone, it may be disconnected when Vodafone nbn™ is installed. Other services that rely on your landline may be affected, such as security services and medical alarms. Check out our support page for more information on how Vodafone nbn™ may impact your existing services.

If you already have a plan with us, you may be able to keep your landline phone number through our Vodafone Mobile Landline Add-On service for $5 per month. This allows you to keep your landline phone number and have unlimited incoming calls redirected to a Vodafone mobile service. Currently, this service is only available to customers on an eligible Vodafone mobile plan – it’s not available if you’re on a prepaid service.

What factors affect the speed of Vodafone nbn™?
Speeds for Vodafone nbn™ vary depending on many factors such as the plan you choose, the nbn™ technology used to deliver your service, the number of devices connected and internet traffic demand. You will experience speeds below the maximum available speed particularly during peak times (7pm to 11pm).
