Why should I get mobile broadband?

With mobile broadband, you’ll be able to connect your devices to the internet, when you’re out and about. To see where Vodafone has mobile coverage, check out our coverage checker.

What devices can be used with Mobile Broadband?

With a mobile broadband plan, you’ll be issued with a multi-fit SIM card.

You could insert the SIM into a modem to connect Wi-Fi only devices, including Wi-Fi tablets, video game consoles, and portable music players. Connect to your modem from your device using Wi-Fi and you’ll be able to use the data from your mobile broadband plan. Modems can either be portable with a rechargeable battery or need to be plugged into a power socket.

Alternatively, your device may accept a SIM card so you can insert the SIM and use the data from your mobile broadband plan directly.

What’s the difference between postpaid and prepaid mobile broadband?

Using a modem or tablet, mobile broadband is a wireless connection to the internet via our mobile network. If you sign up to a postpaid plan, we’ll issue you a bill each month. With prepaid, you need to recharge when either you’ve used your included data for that recharge or at the end of the expiry period.

Certain features, like data sharing and using your plan overseas, are only available on eligible postpaid plans. Check your individual plan details for more info.

What’s the difference between mobile broadband and nbn™?

You can connect your devices to the internet using both mobile broadband and nbn™. Using a mobile broadband modem, you’ll connect to the Vodafone mobile network. Mobile broadband can be used at home, or on the go where Vodafone’s mobile network is available.

On the other hand, using the Vodafone Wi-Fi Hub™, you can connect your home or office to the nbn™ broadband network.

Vodafone Sharing
If you have more than one Vodafone plan that supports sharing on your billing account, the data allowances on those services will automatically combine into one pool which will be shared between eligible users (data sharing is only available on up to 10 services, a maximum of 5 of which can be voice plans). Any existing international calling allowances on your account are not shareable with this plan. You can find out which plans support sharing or you can opt-out of sharing altogether at any time by calling 1555.

$5 Roaming
Countries subject to change, see current list and full details at Available to eligible customers. $5 Daily Charge is in addition to minimum monthly spend. For Plus Plan Plan customers, only Your Max Speed data allowance can be accessed while $5 Roaming. For all plans, once your included data or Your Max Speed data (as applicable for your plan) is exhausted, additional data will be automatically added at a charge of $5/GB ($0.005/MB) (“Additional Data”). Additional Data expires at the end of your billing month, is not shareable and can only be used while in $5 Roaming countries. Max 90 days of use in any calendar year. Bundle & Save
Bundle & Save discounts are available to (a) new customers who connect two or more Eligible Plans on the same billing account; OR (b) existing customers with an Eligible Plan who: add one or more eligible services to their billing account or who upgrade or switch an ineligible Plan to an Eligible Plan; OR (c) existing customers who have two Eligible Plans and upgrade or change one of those Eligible Plan to access the Bundle and Save discounts.

Eligible Plans are: All voice plans of $30 and above released on or after July 25 2018 (excluding Assured Plans); Tablet Plans of $30 and above released on or after June 27 2018, and $20 and above all Modem plans released on or after July 2 2020; and all nbn™ Plans. Excludes Business Flex. Customers will receive a percentage discount off each Eligible Plan’s access fees (5% off two plans, 10% off three plans, 15% off four plans or 20% off five or more plans) when active on a single billing account. Note MPP, APP or Add-On fees are not discounted.

The Bundle & Save discount is calculated from the first full bill cycle and updated monthly as eligible services are added or removed. Any second service discounts are replaced by the applicable Bundle & Save discount. If early exit fees apply to an Eligible Plan they are calculated using the undiscounted amount x months remaining.
